Road Cycling Holiday Spain

Cycling Holiday in Spain: How to have fun!

You don’t have to be a Lycra clad Strava junkie to enjoy one of our road cycling holidays or winter training camps in Andalucia, southern Spain. There are many different types of road cyclist and many different reasons why people enjoy riding their road bikes.

Cycling Holiday Myth 1 – You have to be serious rider!

Some people ride every day, some are weekend warriors, some ride once a month, some people ride for the social aspect and some ride for the cake! We all have our own reasons but the most important thing above all others is that we enjoy it!

Over the years of running the Andalucian Cycling Experience we have come across pretty much every category of road cyclist, climbers, sprinters, club riders, newbies, the old hands who have ridden forever, the commuters, the number crunchers, the gadget addict and the social riders. The list is endless. For some riders there are a number of “do’s” and “don’ts”, like an unwritten riders rule book, although there is a Book of Rules! For us there are no such rules we only hope you have fun and are enjoying your rides with us

Cycling Holiday Myth 2 – It is meant to be hard!!

There is a popular misconception that road cycling holidays and winter training camps are only for the racing snakes, decked out in lycra with shaved legs and riders have to be of a set standard to ride.

I have heard from clients who have been on other road cycling and training camp style holidays with other companies in numerous locations, that if you can’t keep up with the guide you have to find your own way home, or that the guide finishes work a 3pm and the ride must finish before they knock off for the day.

This is simply not the case here at the Andalucian Cycling Experience. We never drop a rider, admittedly there may be times when you find yourself riding on your own, but we always regroup at key junctions, tops of climbs and coffee stops.

I you want to add more distance no problem, if you want an additional coffee stop no problem, if the ride takes until 5 or 6pm again no problem. Our guides are with you for the day, there is no clocking off time, although we do like to be back before nightfall!! You won’t be frowned upon for not having shaved legs, I don’t! There is no dress code, so long as you are comfortable, shorts a tee shirt is fine.

However, I would draw the line if you turned up in a bikini or even worse a mankini!! This hasn’t happened yet, but you never know!

Cycling Holiday Myth 3 – You need lots of Gadgets

You don’t need the latest gadgets, kit, power meter, heart rate monitor, (again the list could be endless) a passion for pedalling, being outdoors and doing something you love is more than enough. Our road cycling holidays are for everyone no matter your age, gender, experience, fitness or what your are wearing.

How to start your fun

If you have never been to Andalucia on a road cycling holiday, or winter training camp, you’ll be pleasantly surprised, no probably more likely blown away, by how courteous the drivers are, how stunning the scenery is, how quiet the roads are, and what good condition the roads are in (there are very few potholes).

Of course we would be delighted to show you around the Serrania de Ronda on two wheels. Contact us for our latest tours and holiday packages.
