Family Cycling Holidays, Spain

Kids love their bikes and they love to ride them! Planning a family holiday can be very stressful, we know we have 2, not so little ones, of our own! Well the answer is easy, take the family on a family cycling holiday! With the kids in tow a family cycling holiday is a fantastic opportunity to spend quality time with the whole family whilst enjoying the fresh air, beautiful scenery and picturesque white villages of Andalucia.

Each family has their own guide which allows you to ride at a pace that is suitable to your family without feeling any pressure to keep up or being kept waiting for other groups that are here riding. Obviously if two families are compatible to ride together then this is not a problem, however, in this instance there would be two guides riding thus maintaining our policy of one guide per family.

Teenagers to young riders on tag-a-longs and toddlers in baby seats this is not just a biking holiday, it’s an adventure that the family will enjoy together. We have a range of bikes to suit all families from Junior Scott Speedster, Junior Specialised Allez road bikes, Orbea mountain bikes and Specialised hybrid bikes plus our standard range of adult bikes for teenagers upwards. We can organise family road cycling, leisure cycling and mountain biking holidays.

Even if you are an experienced rider, cycling with your family has its own rewards. The knowledge that your kids will be getting fit, interacting with nature, building their confidence and, most importantly having fun, it’s extremely satisfying. By taking your children on a cycling holiday you will be opening their eyes to what is possible on a bike and the enjoyment it can bring.

The itinerary below is based on our most popular family rides. Distances can be increased or reduced depending our your family requirements.

Family Cycling Holiday, Spain

Fly to Malaga Airport. Transfer to Ronda.

We start the week with a ride to Setenil de la Bodegas and a visit to the Roman Ampitheatre at Ronda La Vieja. Setenil was once a thriving economic centre on the ‘Travellers route’ between Sevilla and Ronda this picturesque white village is now famous for its cave houses and olive oil. Here we stop for lunch at, in my opinion, one of the best tapas bars in this area which is set beneath the overhanging rock face inside a cave.

Ride Distance
  • 45 km
  • We are always happy to adapt our routes to suit your family needs

A ride through the enchanting Cork Tree forest to Grazalema, which is famous for its wool and leather products. Today we will explore the stunning Grazalema Natural Park and the beautiful white village of Grazalema, which is surrounded by three sides of mountains. Here you have an opportunity to explore the narrow streets, enjoy the beautiful views back across the route we have taken and sample a few tapas and the local hospitality before we ride back to Ronda.

Ride Distance
  • 36km
  • We are always happy to adapt our routes to suit your family needs

Day ride along the Via Verde de la Sierra, visiting the Peñon Zaframagon, a Griffon Vulture colony information centre The ‘Via Verde de la Sierra’ meanders from Olvera to Puerto Serrano. Along the route we pass through a variety of landscapes from farm land to a mountain region. Water is a common element of the landscape as the route follows the path of the two rivers of Guadalete & Guadalporcun, therefore the Mediterranean vegetation is lush. Riding along this old railway track you pass over several viaducts, the most impressive being at Coripe, and through 30 tunnels the longest of which is 990metres. A refreshment stop can be made at the Coripe railway station or we can take a picnic.

Ride Distance
  • Up to 36km
  • We are always happy to adapt our routes to suit your family needs

A rest day gives you the chance to discover the historic old town of Ronda, which is famous for it’s Gorge, the Bullring, the Arabic baths, city walls and many museums, or time for some retail therapy and an opportunity to indulge, and why not after all the riding.

Alternatively, we can organise another activity for you

Of course the high light of any Family Cycling Holiday is the visit to Smurftown to see Papa Smurf! We take the van out to the start of this ride to avoid a long climb on the bike, of course if you are wanting a challenge you can ride this too. The scenery on this route is absolutely breathtaking as with all our rides there be a lunch stop where we can indulge in the local cuisine/tapas before we head back to Ronda.

Ride Distance
  • Between 30-50km (Optional start & finish points)
  • We are always happy to adapt our routes to suit your family needs

We finish the week with a ride along the lake to the hill top village of Zahara de la Sierra. Lunch/refreshments at a Bistro Restaurant over looking the lake, after lunch we take time out to discover the delights of this picturesque ‘pueblo blanco’ (white village) and take in the breathtaking views from the hilltop Moorish Castle before riding back to Montecorto where we will drive back to Ronda in the van.

The climate in Andalucia, with over 300 days of sunshine, is perfect for warmer weather winter cycling holidays, spring and autumn breaks as well as summer holidays.

My husband and I had a fantastic holiday in April with Ashley and Claire . I could not say enough good about our experience. Our accommodation in Ronda was a lovely clean stylish apartment. We had fantastic guided cycles tailored to our level of experience . Another family member was also accommodated to come cycling for two days at short notice . We can’t wait for our next trip!

Personally I hope the move to Ronda doesn’t make ACE *too* successful 🙂 The place is a hidden gem for cycling and I’d hate for it to become another Mallorca or Calpe where every cafe is overrun and prices are high. The fact that ACE are still going strong despite the massive impact of Covid on all businesses is a testament to the dedication of Claire and Ashley along with all of the other people who help keep it going. I can’t recommend ACE highly enough and I’ll definitely be back!

Had a great cycling holiday with this company! They were super accommodating to helping create a route that would work for us because we brought our toddler with us. The route was well organized and all accommodations and transfers of our luggage went smoothly. Ashley is personable and has worked hard to create the business- would highly recommend! An experience we will never forget
