Winter Training Camp

Your winter cycling training camp in Spain is the perfect way to get into shape for the cycling season. Throughout the winter and spring in Andalucia, road traffic is minimal; the weather is bright and warm, with average daily temperatures between 16 and 25 degrees……just perfect for your winter cycling training camp! Andalucia is the perfect destination to train for the season ahead. This area is frequently visited by the Vuelta de Andalucia and Vuelta de España, so if it’s good enough for the Pro’s then it’s good enough for us.

No matter how fast your are. No matter what you are training for. Our training camps will prepare you for the events you have planned for the year.

This is why you are here – to train, to lose a few unwanted pounds that you have gained over the winter months and to prepare yourself for the coming season. So, get off your turbo trainers, dust off the bikes, head for the Andalucian winter sun and get some real miles into your legs and some sunshine upon your face. This is what pre-season training is all about.

For the tri-athletes amongst us,  Ronda has a 25 metre indoor swimming pool, it’s lane swimming you’ll need swimming cap, goggles and flip flops to enter the pool area. There are several running routes around Ronda too.

Road Cycling Holiday, Spain

Fly to Malaga Airport. Transfer to Ronda.

We start the week with a ride to Setenil de la Bodegas which was once a thriving economic centre on the ‘Travellers route’ between Sevilla and Ronda this picturesque white village is now famous for its cave houses and olive oil. Here we stop for refreshments at, in my opinion, one of the best tapa’s bars in this area which is set beneath the overhanging rock face inside a cave. After the pit stop you can choose from either a 30k or 40k ride back to Ronda. The route then takes us along side the Ruta de Bandaleros (Bandits Route) and below the Roman Ampitheatre at Ronda la Vieja. We then descent 7km into the valley below Ronda before our last climb of the day brings us back up to the beautiful historic town of Ronda.

Ride Distances
  • Group 1 is 65km Elevation gain 1200m
  • Group 2 is 90km Elevation gain 1500m

Please note we are always happy to extend any of our rides

Today we head into the Sierra las Nieves National Park, we head out to Canate de Real and Serrato, we take on the climb the guides have nick named the ’12 f**kers’ before a fast  descent into El Burgo. A pit stop for lunch before a 13km climb up to the Puerto El Viento. We finish the day with an 11km descent into Ronda . The scenery on this ride is absolutely breathtaking with different, diverse and dramatic views on every turn.

Ride Distances
  • Group 1 is 75km Elevation gain 1400m
  • Group 2 is 100km Elevation gain 1950m

Please note we are always happy to extend any of our rides

We take on ‘The Beast’ a 15k Cat 1 climb. We head out along the cork tree forest towards Grazalema and then onto El Bosque the village at the foot of the climb we named ‘The Beast’ After this climb we descend into Grazalema, another stunningly beautiful ‘pueblo blanco’ (white village) for well deserved ‘Coffee & Cakes’. After Grazalema we ride back to Ronda. If you don’t want such a big day in the saddle then we are happy to organise an alternative route for today.

Ride Distances
  • Group 1 is 105k Elevation gain 2000m
  • Group 2 is 125k Elevation gain 2400m

Please note we are always happy to extend any of our rides

A rest day gives you the chance to discover the historic old town of Ronda, which is famous for it’s Gorge, the Bullring, the Arabic baths, city walls and many museums. Or time for some retail therapy and an opportunity to indulge, and why not after all the riding.

Alternatively, you can pick up a route card and go out for a ride without your guide.

We can also organise a Sports Massage

Deep in the mountains to the south of Ronda is ‘Pueblo Pitufo’ aka Smurftown. An epic day riding to this quirky mountain village that has been painted Smurf blue! Definitely a day for your climbing legs, which is why it’s immediately after your ‘rest day’! The high light of any cycling holiday has to be the opportunity to get your picture taken with Papa Smurf !  On a clear day we can see the Altlas mountains in Africa on this ride.

If you don’t fancy such a big day there is also a 50km option to see Papa Smurf.

We had a wonderful day cycling in and around Ronda. Ashley is incredibly approachable and knowledgeable about the local area, and gave us some excellent recommendations on a scorching hot day that were perfectly suited to me and my two children. The bikes Ashley hired out were simply the best quality we’ve ever seen from a hire shop and, quite frankly, among the best bikes I’ve ever ridden. I was dreaming about my Wilier full-carbon frame for days afterwards! For my daughter, it was the first time she had ridden a road bike with gear shifting on the hoods. Ashley kindly spent several minutes explaining everything clearly and calmly, and after a kilometre or two she had completely got the hang of it. We’ll hopefully be back next year to tackle the Via Verde de la Sierra. Thanks again, Ashley, and see you then, buddy! 😉

I was so lucky to come across Ashley’s bike hire & cycle experience business in Ronda after another cycle company let me down at short notice. Ashley got back to me by email immediately - I needed 4 road bikes including an electric... no problem! He even provided recommended routes taking into consideration different fitness levels, he was so helpful. In addition his wife runs a cakery business - it was my husbands 60th - so surprise homemade pavlova birthday cake sorted too! It was delicious! So yes I definitely give Andalucian cycle experience maximum stars 🤩

I spent five days on a road cycling tour in Ronda. The routes were very varied, and my guide, Drew, always adapted each ride to my needs. Thank you very much!

After booking a rental with Andalusian Cycling Experience online I received a terse computer-generated email response: “Dear Mr. Adam Rosenberg—thank you for choosing Andalusian Cycling Experience. Please check your bike hire reservation.” No personal message, no kind request for a deposit—only that payment is due in cash upon my arrival—and no follow-up emails. And the sending email address was: noreply@beds24.com. Thinking this probably wasn’t the securest of reservations (what kind of company interested in excelling doesn’t reach out to make a personal connection with its clients? What kind of company in the 21st century accepts only cash? What kind of company has the kind of email address that scammers use?), I booked another rental with Cycleronda, a live representative from which actually emailed me back (from the address rentabike@cycleronda.com) and engaged in a question/answer dialogue, in addition to requesting a deposit. When I arrived at 24D, Ave. Andalusia several months later, I found that both Andalusian Cycling Experience (ACE) and Cycleronda (CR) used this same storefront from which to rent their bikes. Employees from both companies greeted me as I walked in and explained that I’d double-booked bikes and so one of them was due a cancellation fee. I had no problem with this (the 50 euros was worth the extra peace of mind believing that my chances for securing a rental during this busy time were increased) and paid the fee. The two of them decided I would rent from ACE. I felt the ACE rep wanted to get me on my way asap—he seemed disappointed that I’d brought my own saddle, and impatient with me as I asked him to adjust both the height, fore and aft, and tilt, until he finally listened to my requests to hand over the Allen key so I could do it myself (after all, I’m only going to sit on this thing for seven days in a row, 4-5 hours a day, and I’m only 61). He then proceeded to lecture me on how to lean a bike against a wall properly, and how to lay one on the ground properly (after all, I’m only 61 and have been riding bicycles since the 1970s). When he asked for the fee in cash and I told him I didn’t have cash, he insisted he would only take cash. At which point I said I’d be happy to rent from Cycleronda. At which point he said he’d call the main office who would process my credit card. My experience with the bike was fine, other than some trouble shifting later in the week, probably due to some cable stretch. When I returned the bike at the designated time, another employee greeted me and told me he had to meet a group of eight renters and so had little time to deal with me. He used most of it telling me that I would be charged extra if they found any damage (one of the first things he asked me was if I’d crashed). I told him about the shifting issue, which he ignored while turning the conversation back to any damage I may have been responsible for. For contrast, Eat, Sleep, Cycle in Malaga took their time with me, patiently ensuring that my saddle was in a good position for me, encouraging me to take a spin around the block to ensure that the fit was good and there were no problems with the bike. They never once attempted to teach me how to handle a bike, or brought up the issue of potential damages. They encouraged me to have a great time, and even invited me on their Saturday group ride (which was a blast!) Running a business should be about building community, not just making a buck (or euro).

Rented a road bike for 5 days may 2026. Cycling routes based from Ronda. Great professional service from Ashley & Claire, from enquiry to rental period. Bike was first class, well maintained & serviced. Would certainly recommend, first class service.

I recently finished a week of riding in Andalucia based out of Ronda and organized by Andalucia Cycling Experience and forever will be faced with asking why would I ride anywhere else? I chose to do one of their guided tours - each day on a different ride through the mountains and hills going from village to village, stopping for coffee or bite to eat on the bigger days. I’ve cycled in Mallorca, and Italy, and Southern California and the Sierra Nevada of California. Nothing quite compares to Andalucia. Mallorca has some nice rides, but EVERY ride in Andalucia is picturesque. The roads are pristine pavement with great visibility making downhills a dream. If you like challenging yourself as a roadie, this is the hidden gem and ACE made it easy. They maintain good quality bikes and work all the logistics. Big thumbs up to ACE.

Had a fantastic time in the Algarve through Andalucian Cycling Experience! Ashley organized a self guided tour that worked seamlessly. He arranged great bikes, sent us GPS files for the routes we took, and found us the perfect hotel that met our needs. We loved the routes we cycled and got to experience local roads and sights that traditional tourists rarely see. Thanks Ashley!

Ashley guided our group on two 80km rides around the stunning roads of the Ronda region. The guiding was excellent, anticipating what the group was capable of even though it was of mixed abilities. Excellent recommendations for much needed lunch and coffee stops. His bikes were good quality, well maintained bikes (mixed selection of Focus, Liv and Wilier). Thanks Ashley (and Oliver).
