Spain might be known for package holidays but there is so much more to this beautiful country than over-populated holiday hotspots. Spain has some of the best leisure cycling in Europe! For those looking for Spanish rides with plenty of local culture, our guided and self-guided cycling holidays in southern Spain have plenty to offer. Andalucia provides a stunning back drop to your leisure riding.
Spain is a cycling friendly country, bursting with history and architecture. In terms of cycling it can offer everything: quiet roads, cycle paths, great weather, ever changing landscapes, world famous cultural sights and of course the tapas! You will ride through rolling sierras and olive groves, passing castle-topped villages and many ‘Pueblos Blancos’ (White Villages) along the way. The Vias Verdes, were once the railway lines of the region, are now disused and have been converted into purpose-built cycle ways perfect for leisure riding! They are compact and flat, offering the perfect, rolling network from which to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and historical delights of the real Andalucia.
Ronda is a picturesque hill top town and is perhaps the most famous of the white villages, Ronda has incredible views of the surrounding mountains, it’s famous gorge is spanned by a stunning 18th century arched bridge. Whilst Ronda, Setenil and Olvera have been recently voted in the top 25 most scenic places in Spain to visit, I would also add Grazalema and Zahara to this list, you can visit all of these 5 towns/villages from our cycling base here in Ronda.
Andalucia, will thrill your senses with its breathtaking scenery, fine wines and local cuisine. Combine this with the relaxed pace of life and great weather you will soon be able to disconnect from the stresses and strains of everyday life making a perfect recipe for an amazing holiday. Whilst riding you can stop for a coffee and cake and just watch the world go by before exploring the cobbled streets of the beautiful white villages. Bliss!
Enjoy paella, local goat’s cheese, tortilla, Jamón Ibérico, sangria, ruby red Riojas, flamenco and many other local specialities… it’s not all about pedalling!
