A Top European Winter Cycling Destination

Winter Cycling in Europe

Do you suffer from the winter blues?

Find it increasingly hard to motivate yourself to get out in the cold and wet to ride your bike and train for the coming season?

Is your turbo trainer doing your head in?

Do you long for the open road and to feel the sun upon your face?

What if you could avoid donning your winter overshoes, your rain jacket and thermals and just ride your bike in the winter sun? Where would you go?

Well truth be told you don’t have to look or travel too far to find some winter sun where you can enjoy a warmer weather road cycling holiday or winter training camp. Here in Andalucia, southern Spain, daily temperatures throughout the winter months are usually around 16 -20 degrees, which is pretty perfect for road cycling, with over 320 days of sunshine and only 40 days of rain per year, Andalucia/Montecorto is the place to head too. As yet during the 2019/2020 winter months I have yet to wear my winter longs and we are fast approaching mid January. Andalucia is just a short flight away from northern Europe so you can soon be trading nights in the shed/garage/kitchen on the turbo trainer for days in the saddle enjoying the winter sunshine and fresh air. Pushing yourself on the climbs and enjoying the exhilarating descents that follow or just rolling along enjoying the scenery whilst putting real miles in the legs and soaking up the sun without a leg warmer in sight. Montecorto has a reputation for being a go-to mid-winter getaway and training camp destination. A fail safe, tried and test all winter road cycling destination.

The landscape is stunningly beautiful with ‘Pueblos blancos’ (White Villages) dotting the mountainside you’ll be riding through forests of cork trees, past olive groves and vineyards on some of the smoothest tarmac you are ever likely to ride, making the Serrania de Ronda and Grazalema Natural Park a cycling paradise. Unlike many other popular cycling destination the traffic here is minimal, we often ride for 10-15km and only see a handful of vehicles. Cyclists a drawn to Andalucia/Montecorto not only for the great cycling, the sunshine, the smooth roads and sparse traffic but also the relaxed pace of life and local food and wines. There is no better way to spend your winter days than riding your bike and re-fuelling on tapas and a cerveza!

Take a look at our training camps and road cycling holidays to see how you can be enjoying the open roads, sunshine and local tapas this winter

We hope to see you soon
