Ronda
When we decided to move to Spain to set up our cycling holiday business, all we new was that we wanted to be in based in Andalucia. For 18 months we took every opportunity to fly into Malaga, hire a car and explore the Andalucian countryside for the right location. On one of these trips we came across Ronda, it was the Goyesca Feria and Ronda was a lively vibrant and breathtaking place to be. We fell in love with Ronda, with its famous 'El Tajo' gorge, the bullring which is said to be the birth place of modern day bullfighting and the historic old part of town. Our decision was made we had to be in Ronda or within half an hour of it. We then discovered that Ronda had, and still has, 4 bike clubs the largest being the road bike 'club ciclista rondeno' and 3 mountain biking clubs. We knew then that this was going to be a great base for the Andalucian Cycling Experience, a fabulous place to ride and Ronda has far surpassed our expectations in every respect, but especially with the variety of riding that's so abundant in the Serrania de Ronda.
Cycling Vacations in the Serrania de Ronda
The Serrania de Ronda is a cyclists paradise with mile after mile of fabulous mountain bike trails and well surfaced asphalt roads too! This is one of our main playgrounds for riding (in fact we refer to it as 'our office'). The diversity of the countryside allows us too ride through the Serrania de Ronda with families, leisure cyclists, mountain bikers and roadies but more importantly provide a route suitable to all the wide ranging requirements of these groups whilst on their cycling vacations.
During our cycling vacations for family groups and leisure riders we are able to explore the Serrania de Ronda by riding a combination of vehicle width dirt tracks and quiet country lanes that lazily drift through the stunning countryside offering breathtaking views at every turn. We use our support van to help make the rides as easy as you want them to be and to collect tired riders once they have had their fill of riding for the day. Whilst cycling we take time out to explore the many white villages that we pass through and indeed stop at for refreshments. There is also the opportunity to swim in the lake at Zahara and also the fresh water lagoon at the Cueva de Gatos and at Arroyomolinos and whilst you are here you should climb up to the Moorish castle that overlooks the village of Zahara and the lake below and admire the stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
With our mountain biking vacations we head off deeper into the Serrania de Ronda as the terrain here is well suited to getting off road and blasting along the many tracks and trails throughout the area. The excellent biking terrain means there is something for everyone from epic cross country trails to technical single track riding. There is a huge network of tracks and trails to explore and when you mix this in with adrenalin fueled descents you'll remember what mountain biking is all about and why you 'love it' soooo much! The surface of the roads in this area can only be described as 'dreamy'! Smooth black asphalt makes road cycling vacations a real joy, all you need to do is concentrate on the cadence and speed without giving a second thought to pot holes and poorly maintained roads. When we are out with a group of road cyclists or running one of our winter training camp, without fail, someone will comment on how lucky we are to be riding on roads of this quality and condition over here. The quality of the surface and minimal traffic makes for a awesome days riding. We also pass through the Serrania de Ronda on our White Village Tours and Sporting Tours. The White Village Tour is suitable to all levels of cyclists who are looking for a recreational holiday on two wheels exploring the beautiful ' pueblos blancos' in Andalucia. On the other hand the Sporting Tour is for the more avid cyclists who is looking for more of a challenge. Both the afore mentioned tours are 'self guided point-to-point tours' whereby we look after all the logistical side of the holiday, booking the hotels, airport transfers and luggage transfers and all you have to do is enjoy the riding.
